In the spring of 1935, silent movie star Ruan took her own life, shocking the world. Her funeral was attended by hundreds of thousands of mourning fans. Ruan entered the film world at the age of 16. In the short span of 9 years, she made 29 silent movies and became the idol of tens of thousands. As she rose to fame, she also rose to infamy with scandals over her private life. Her death at such an early age has given rise to much debate: did she kill herself because of her career? Or for love? In her farewell note, Ruan wrote four words \u2013 “criticism should be feared” \u2013 and gave her final condemnation on the merciless public.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1529472959819{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\u672c\u7247\u6539\u7f16\u81ea\u4e2d\u56fd\u9ed8\u7247\u65f6\u4ee3\u5929\u624d\u5973\u6f14\u5458\u962e\u73b2\u7389\u7684\u4f20\u5947\u4e00\u751f\u3002\u4e3b\u89d2\u5f20\u66fc\u7389\u4e1d\u4e1d\u5165\u6263\u7684\u6f14\u51fa\u6280\u60ca\u56fd\u9645\uff0c\u8d62\u5f97\u7b2c\u56db\u5341\u4e8c\u5c4a\u67cf\u6797\u56fd\u9645\u7535\u5f71\u8282\u6700\u4f73\u5973\u4e3b\u89d2\u3002<\/p>\n

He once landed a job at Hong Kong’s Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) before working as production assistant for Ann HUI (A Simple Life<\/em><\/a>) and other Hong Kong directors. His debut feature,\u00a0Women<\/em><\/strong> (1985), starring Chow Yun-fat, was a major box office success. As a key figure in the Hong Kong Second Wave, Kwan constantly explores the power of female protagonists and their romantic struggles with sympathetic eyes, and such directorial credits include\u00a0Rouge<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1987),\u00a0Full Moon in New York<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1989),\u00a0Center Stage\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(1992) and\u00a0Red Rose White Rose<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1994).<\/p>\n
