Beibei, an ordinary Chinese woman juggling the roles of wife, mother, and daughter, finds herself navigating the complexities of intimate relationships at the onset of the pandemic. In this pseudo-documentary, her journey poses bold questions to traditional expectations of womanhood. Through her unwavering desires and actions, Beibei mirrors the pioneering spirit of women who dare to express their wants and needs, redefining what it means to be a modern woman in contemporary China.

Alan ZHANG (b. 1990s, China) is a director, painter, artist and feminist activist. She has held two solo art exhibitions, Leaving Beijing and Letting You In. She also has two video creations of performance art works, Casting Away and Looking for a Sperm. Her latest work is the feature film, This woman, which was selected for the Burning Lights section at Visions du Réel and won the ZONTA Award for a female filmmaker, and Special Jury Award in the International Competition.
