Tanjong Rhu in Singapore was once a meeting place for gay men. In an entrapment operation in 1993, 12 men were arrested there, and sentenced to imprisonment and caning. This is a fictionalized account of what has happened since then to one of these men.
Director
Singaporean filmmaker BOO Junfeng’s works often humanize large topics such as identity, memory and sexuality, using personal and intimate narratives. His debut feature Sandcastle (2010) was the first Singapore film invited to Cannes International Critics’ Week. His second feature Apprentice (2016) premiered at Cannes Un Certain Regard and was Singapore’s official entry to the Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film category. Boo is presently the Chairperson of the Board of Singapore International Film Festival.
